I think one of the things I love the most about dramas is the insight into the human soul and often very deep wisdom. Dramas can cause us reflect. That is why I chose to accept the three day quote challenge bestowed upon me by Kay from KdramaKisses and Kwon Sang Seung From Dramajjang (two really fantastic blogs by the way, I kid you not).
So for my three day quote challenge, I decided I would keep it broken up into three days (one quote a day). But since I was nominated by 2 different people, instead of giving you six quotes, I decided for each quote I would draw an abstract artistic interpretation to go along with the theme of the quote. I don’t expect anyone else to do this (I really enjoy sketching out things). The quotes do not need to be strictly from dramas. They can be from music, books etc. The idea is you post one a day, but if you want to post them altogether I see no harm in that. Once you post, you then nominate three other people to do the same. It’s fun; but of course there’s no obligation.
Quote of the Day: From Bubblegum Episode 4
For My first quote I decided to go with one of my favourite quotes from Bubblegum since it’s still fresh in my mind. Bubblegum is a gold mine in terms of quotes. There’s one fantastic quote after the other, since the drama focuses a lot on self reflection, growth, finding happiness and such.
“Hating a person I don’t even know very well… I don’t even have to hate him to this extent. Hating him to this extent, means that he is not the problem. That means… there is a problem within my heart.” – Ri Hwan, Bubblegum Episode 4
So to set up the scene a bit without going into too much detail, Ri Hwan (Lee Dong Wook) is very upset over a current situation involving Haeng Ah (Jung Ryeo Won) and her ex boyfriend who wants her back Suk Joon (Lee Jong Hyuk).
Ri Hwan is feeling a very strong sense of hatred towards Suk Joon, but in Ri Hwan’s inner dialogue, he acknowledges that the issue lies within him, and not so much because of Suk Joon. Ri Hwan is struggling and learning about his own feelings, and as a result it’s causing a great stir within him.
This quote rings so true; when something really bothers us about someone else, the problem often lies within ourselves. Often what we dislike about others can be rooted in our own insecurities and struggles. Ri Hwan’s struggle, though in this moment he is very heated, gives him the opportunity to clearly see his own heart. I think in our own hearts as well, in instances like these, we should take that time to reflect and grow (often easier said then done).
And thinking about this quote, here’s my artistic interpretation of it.
I title it “Problem within my heart”.
So what I’m trying to illustrate here, is the heart is conflicted. It contains both warmth and darkness. The flames are what are being projected outwards. The droplets, or tears, are the acknowledgement of the inner conflict coming out in form of emotion. The issue not being dealt with grows and becomes more deeply rooted, spreading like a virus, crawling into the dark, lonely hidden space from within.
Feel free to interpret it how you will. Basically, there’s a problem, and to have such deep unfounded resentment and anger towards someone means there’s something within us that needs to be addressed.
Here are my nominations (because I heart you all):

Thanks! Someone on Instagram gathered a lot of the end quotes which I thought was cool. I’d love to gather them all, but it would be a lot of work and I don’t know if I’d have the patience for that 🙂
